5:39 PM: Krull gets 3 Ks in the inning - it's 5-2 as we go to the bottom of the 7th.
5:34 PM: Plagman launches a homer to right to make it 5-2 Lowell. uh oh
5:29 PM: Kuehl grounds out to end the inning. On to the 7th and final inning of play...
5:28 PM: Provencher is caught stealing... gah. 2 outs.
5:26 PM: Provencher brings him home with a base hit up the middle, and the Navs have serious life now. Here's Kuehl with a runner on first and one out.
5:25 PM: Little reaches on an error by the shortstop with one out.... in Vermont, it's Mountaineers 6, Mainers 3 in the 4th.
5:21 PM: Krull keeps it 4-1 after 5 1/2. The Navs have 6 outs to produce 3 runs.
5:12 PM: Gallo departs with a runner on first and one out in the sixth. Certainly not his best outing of the season, but he does have his team in the game. Ryan Krull is now in.

7:51 PM: Tyler Kuehl just absolutely robbed Nandin to lead off the fourth. He ranged to his right, almost all the way to 2nd base, went down and made a stop that would make Tim Thomas proud, set himself, threw to first, and got Nandin in time for the out. WOW.
7:43 PM: Belcher hits a hot shot to third, it takes a hop in the dirt over the head of the third baseman and into left for an RBI single.
7:42 PM: We've got one of the largest and most energetic crowds of the year on hand at Fraser.

NAVS WIN EPIC GAME, 2-1 IN 14TH
Well, I'm emotionally drained... how about you? The players and coaches all seem very pumped up - yet very tired at the same time.
I just returned from the field with a bushel of quotes from a players and coaches about tonight's thrilling 14 inning victory over Keene. "Version 1" of the Game Story will be without quotes since we all really need to get out of here. But once we get home, we'll update it with lots of player & coach reactions.
It turns out that from my position on press row, I missed what turned out to be the key moment of the game. After Provencher's close steal of second base, Keene 1B Paul Karmas had some choice words for the umpire. He got tossed, forcing LF Grovatt to move to first base, and putting backup catcher Franco Valdes in left field.
Naturally, Costello lined the first pitch to left field - and Valdes missed it, finally ending an amazing game.
The other breaking story I got from the field was that if the game went to the 15th, Mike Gallo would have been the next guy to come in out of the bullpen.

There's a real buzz in the park as there are a number of groups in attendance, including a youth group just below us in section E. Youth groups often bring great atmosphere to the ballpark.

9:14 PM: On the backs of a number of temporary roster players, the North Shore Navigators have topped the Dominican All-Stars, 8-4. It was really nice to have a huge (albeit hostile) crowd on hand at Fraser. It was definitely an odd night, but it wound up being a good one, on the field and off. Let's hope the Navs can carry this momentum with them into Saturday night's game at Lowell.

4:29 PM - I've just been informed that fellow staff member and Eastern Nazarene College player Jason Tower will be tonight's starting pitcher for the Navigators. His co-GM, Matt Judkins, will also get some playing time tonight.

If both teams fall tonight, the Navigators move into a three-way tie for first place. I will try to get some updates from those games as teh night goes on.

This place is loaded with banners, great music is pumping out of some massive loudspeakers, the Dominican team is rocking the ball during batting practice, and by all indications, we are going to have a big crowd for tonight's exhibition between the North Shore Navigators and the Dominican touring team. The live music will be getting underway momentarily, and we'll be here to share photos and stories throughout the evening. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 PM.

LIVE: Navs prepare for divisional clash with Keene
We're finally back at Fraser, and we finally have beautiful, sunny weather. After two difficult losses against the iron of the NECBL, the Navs hope to return the favor tonight against the Keene Swamp Bats. Game time is scheduled for 7 PM.
The Swamp Bats have had the Navs number so far, beating them on three occasions - 2-0 at Fraser on June 8, 4-3 on June 19 in Keene, and again in Keene last Thursday, 12-7.
In my opinion, these are the two best teams in the NECBL. It should be an intriguing game.

LIVE: After another bout with rain, Navs and Swamp Bats underway in Keene
Welcome to Keene's Alumni Field, where your first place Navs are getting ready for a key divisional battle with the Swamp Bats. We dealt with some heavy rain at about 5:30 PM, but it's moved through now, and the field looks ready for baseball.
The Navigators continue to be red hot on the hill, improving their league-best ERA to 1.97 after last night's victory over the Vermont Mountaineers. Meanwhile, the Swamp Bats have cooled off, amassing a 5-5 record since their 7-1 start to the year.

-7:14 PM: Adam Herter "continues to find the most creative ways to get out of innings," says my colleague Zander Kean. With a runner on first and one out, Josh Chester hit a chopper to short. The flip to second was in time, and the runner was called for interference, causing an automatic out at first base. If you watched last night's Red Sox game, the same thing happened with Julio Lugo against the Rays.
-7:09 PM: North Shore goes down quickly in the first, with Little, Provencher, and McNaughton all grounding out.
-7:01 PM: We're set to get underway here. The Swamp Bats have a real ACC connection, with 7 ACC guys on the roster.
-6:43 PM: This pitching matchup is very interesting. Despite his outstanding numbers (3-0, 0.89 ERA) Herter hasn't exactly been dominant this year - opponents are hitting .299 against him, and he's allowed 5 unearned runs in addition to the 2 earned - but he has been excellent at getting out of jams and keeping opponents off the board.
Meanwhile, Keene starter Sean McDermott is making his first start after five solid appearances out of the bullpen. Opponents are hitting .111 against McDermott.
-6:28 PM: It's still clear and dry here and it looks as of now like we should be okay for a 7 PM start.
-6:05 PM: Welcome to Keene, where we're facing... you guessed it... rain. We drove through some severe storms about a half hour before pulling in to the ballpark; the storms have moved through, but the rain was hard enough to cancel batting practice. It looks like another band of storms is about 20 minutes away.
The good news is that the field seems to be taking the rainfall very well, so unless these storms are really hard, we should be okay to play.
