Coach Jason Falcon
On the rough start and the umpiring…
“In my twelve years of coaching and my years of playing independent ball and coaching, I have never seen an umpire take a game away from a pitcher. As a pitcher myself I take it very personal. For a kid like Mike DiCato to come out and do what he did, and come off the mound the way he did, [the umpires] were in the wrong. I wish our team had come back a little bit and made it a legitimate game, but we did not do that so I guess we’re going to continue to come out and work hard.”
On Mathew Costello’s job as tomorrow’s starting pitcher…
“Costello is going to come in and give us a couple innings tomorrow. We have got three more guys in the bullpen that are fresh – [Chris] Prescott, Mike Adams and Ryan Krull. I’m not worried about our bullpen at all; I am not worried about pitching tomorrow. I am probably a little more worried about our guys being a little too ‘amped up’ to come out at Keene. We have not beaten Keene, so I think they know that, so I think we will have a little bit of a chip on our shoulder.”
On the performance of relievers Jason Markowitz and Chris Kowalski…
“Both Jason and Chris did an outstanding job. As I said to my guys at the end of the game, I said, ‘you know, our pitching is going to keep us in games. If we had chipped away that game would have been a little more interesting, who knows what would have happened. But I can’t say enough about what [Markowitz] has done all year and, that whole bullpen.”
Relief Pitcher Jason Markowitz
On relieving DiCato in the second inning…
“I was mainly throwing my fastball, my arm felt really good. I was not really sure what happened [when DiCato confronted the umpire] because I was down in the bullpen and I did not know why [DiCato] was all mad but I found out afterwards. Then I came out and I felt real good today.”
On the bullpen’s performance in general…
“It is good. You know, coach was commenting after the game that this is no mystery; this is what we come out and do. Chris and I, this is what we do. We have done it before, we will do it again.”
Relief Pitcher Chris Kowalski
On entering the game after Markowitz’ four-innings of relief…
“You know, every time, me, Jay, Prescott, we have got this little team in the bullpen. [Markowitz] comes in and throws, I come in and throw, then
On rebounding from two tough losses…
“You just go back and swing the bats and play the game. We had a little issue on the field during this game but that stuff is going to happen. You have got to give it to [
First Baseman and Pitcher Mathew Costello
On his first week with the Navigators…
“To tell you the truth, I wish I had shown up a little earlier. I am a little mad I did not come here for the first game, you know. But I love it here; I think this is where I belong. I played in the Cape League the past two years, last year and the first part of this year [Cotuit, Bourne and Yarmouth-Dennis] and got tossed around a little bit. I think this is definitely a good spot for me and I am enjoying it. Especially since they are letting me hit and play the field. Everyone else wanted me to just pitch for them.
On getting the starting job against Keene tomorrow…
“My arm feels good. I have not thrown in a game since a month ago, so my arm is pretty fresh, it has been feeling real good. Coach said he only wants five out of me, I am going to try and go a little longer than that.”
On his role in the team’s success going forward…
“Hopefully I can give them a couple good innings and keep swinging the bat and playing like I am right now.”
